An amazingly beautiful natural landscape during the golden rice season is Mam Xoi Hill, which belongs to Mu Cang Chai district (Yen Bai province), about 300km northwest of Hanoi. This place has unique terraced rice fields structured like a tray holding sticky rice in Vietnamese culture, so it’s called the Hill of Rice Tray.
The golden rice season from late September to early October every year is the most beautiful time, attracting hundreds of tourists to admire the yellow beauty of this site.
Perhaps you will not miss the beautiful photos of the hills. It should be noted, you can pay an extra fee to take pictures and go into the rice fields. The price for getting photos is not high, but moving to Mu Cang Chai from Hanoi costs a lot of money. In the end, it is well worth what you get at this destination.
2. Tran Quoc Pagoda

Tran Quoc Pagoda is the oldest temple in the land of Hanoi’s capital, located on a small peninsula of the famous West Lake. The pagoda features a 15-meter-high stupa and 11 floors. Inside the main hall, many ancient Buddha statues are kept.
With a separate location from crowded streets, the pagoda has a peaceful setting, and ancient architecture showing the classic style of Vietnamese pagodas. Many Hanoians consider this temple a holy place because of its long history and it’s staying in good feng shui terrain. Therefore, people often gather to worship and pray on the full moon day and the Lunar New Year.
If you are a tourist, come to this place in the late afternoon, and you will feel the sacred beauty blending into the vast lake landscape covered with a romantic sunset.
3. Ha Long Bay

Located nearly 180km northeast of Hanoi, Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh province is a must-see tourist destination in the journey to discover Vietnam.
The bay owns thousands of large and small rocky islands, along with many beautiful caves located in the vast sea in an area of up to 1,553 square kilometers.
This place becomes an exciting beach tourist destination to spend one or two nights on luxury cruises, and enjoy fresh seafood.
The best time to visit this place is March to April. The summer months of May to September are also great for swimming and enjoying the beautiful scenery thanks to the dry weather, but sometimes thunderstorms happen during this time.
4. Tam Coc – Bich Dong
- Address: Ninh Hai commune, Hoa Lu district, Ninh Binh province
- Highlights: Rocky mountains, caves, and field scenes
Belonging to the famous complex of monuments and landscapes of Ninh Binh, Tam Coc – Bich Dong attracts you right the first time you come here by its mountainous settings, rice fields, and the peaceful Ngo Dong river.
Compared to Ha Long Bay in Ninh Binh above, this place can be seen as its sister but on land. Even so, Tam Coc – Bich Dong still has its own charm to attract you to spend time with it. To explore these attractions, you have to use a boat, usually for 2 people, rowed by locals within 3 hours.
February and March can be considered the most suitable weather to come to Tam Coc. However, if you want to see the golden rice fields sprouting along the river on your way touring, you should visit this place in late May and early June.
5. Paradise Cave
- Address: Km 16 Ho Chi Minh Street (West Branch), Bo Trach District, Quang Binh Province
- Highlights: Visiting the cave, amazingly beautiful stalactites
Located in the cave complex of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park (Quang Binh province), Dong Thien Duong in Vietnamese, meaning the Paradise Cave, is gorgeous with many incredible stalactites and stalagmites.
Compared to other caves in this park, Paradise Cave is relatively easy to explore, although you have to walk up many steps. Meanwhile, if you explore Phong Nha cave (also known as Wet Cave), you have to use a boat; At the same time, the beauty of this cave is not equal to Thien Duong cave.
Another famous one – Hang Son Doong belongs to the top of the largest caves in the world, it requires you to spend more effort, time, and money to explore.
Therefore, to admire the beauty of the cave here, the first choice is Paradise Cave, suitable for most people. But, you also pay attention to the elderly and people who are not able to climb stairs from 5 normal floors of a building when visiting this cavern.
The dry season, from March to September, is suitable for sightseeing although there are occasional rains. But, the number of dry days is still more.
6. Hue Imperial Citadel
- Address: 23rd August Road, Hue city, Thua Thien Hue province, Vietnam
- Highlights: Ancient architecture, the king’s palace, an airy area with green trees
Located in the heart of Hue city, on the north bank of the romantic Perfume River, Hue Imperial City is a prominent place that most tourists visit to learn about the culture and history of the Nguyen Dynasty (1802 – 1945).
The citadel has a large area of up to 520 hectares. In particular, the area of the Imperial Palace and the Forbidden City around 40 ha becomes the main attraction here. This area preserves many valuable palace architectures under the last feudal dynasty of Vietnam.
To visit this attraction, you can spend 1-3 hours exploring, depending on whether you want to go fast or slow to see every detail or glance at it. One point to note is that you have to pay the entrance ticket and walk quite a bit longer to explore places, temples, and scenery here.

7. Hai Van Pass
- Address: Lang Co, Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue province

Hai Van Pass is located on National Highway 1A, connecting Hue and Da Nang. This pass becomes a beautiful landscape to stop on the way to travel through Vietnam. One side is the mountain and the other side is the immense sea, forming a charming picture.
To explore this place, usually, most visitors traveling from Hue to Hoi An or from Da Nang to Hue can stop at the pass peak to sip a cup of coffee and enjoy the view. Therefore, you need to rent a car and a professional driver to assist you to conquer this pass.
Besides the scenery, you can also visit the ancient gate and a few bunkers left from the war. However, you need to be aware that sometimes there are street vendors following you to sell souvenirs; that is the minus point that you need to pay attention to.
8. Hoi An Ancient Town

The bay has an area of about 507 square kilometers, owning 19 islands, of which Hon Tre is the largest one. With the full terrain of sea – island – forest and mainland, this area was selected as one of the most beautiful bays in Vietnam, behind Ha Long Bay, and in the world.

The good time to visit this bay also coincides with the best time to visit Nha Trang is in the dry season from January to September every year. But checking the weather before going to the bay is a necessary thing to avoid unusually bad weather.
10. Red Sand Dunes
- Address: Vo Nguyen Giap Street, Mui Ne, Phan Thiet City, Binh Thuan Province, Vietnam

The red sand dunes are about 25km north of the center of Mui Ne city, located along Vo Nguyen Giap street, about 1km from the junction of Nguyen Huu Tho and Vo Nguyen Giap.
This destination includes large red sand dunes, slightly yellowed, so it is also known as golden dunes. Coming here, you will be able to see the undulating waves of the sandy hills created by the wind, very attractive.
In addition, you can also participate in crossing the sand dunes by jeep tour, playing sand-skiing games, and taking beautiful photos here. It’s fun when you can walk barefoot on the sand. However, you need to pay attention to sharp objects when walking, and should avoid walking at noon when it is hot.
11. Cu Chi Tunnels

Cu Chi owns a vast system of tunnels, like a village in the ground. Many locals lived in these underpasses during the war. Long small tunnels connect to each other into a complex network, containing both the hardships of a long time for the locals.
To explore Cu Chi tunnels from Ho Chi Minh, you can spend 4 to 5 hours on this trip. Morning is the right time to travel to this destination while in the afternoon you can spend exploring tourist attractions in Saigon.
12. Cai Rang floating market

Cai Rang Floating Market is on Can Tho River, near Cai Rang Bridge, about 6 km from Can Tho City Center. This interesting place belongs to one of the famous and unique local markets in Vietnam. To go to this attraction, you take a boat from Ninh Kieu Wharf for 30 minutes to get here.
Previously, this floating market was a place specializing in trading fruits of the Mekong Delta to transport to other cities in Vietnam. Today, besides fruits, the market also sells a lot of different goods, including local foods that you can enjoy right on the boat.
The market starts meeting very early, from 5 am to 9 am daily; the interesting time is usually most crowded from 5:30 to 7 am. So remember to check your alarm clock to get here in time. And surely you order a boat to float on the river and join the activities of the people here.
