Distance from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City
The total distance from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City is about 1,161 km, straight ahead. However, you should always be about 1,700 km if you choose to travel by train, bus, or rental car.
Ideally, it takes you two hours by airplane to fly between two cities, while a train may take up to 40 hours to go all the way – not our favorite method for this distance. There is not much difference in duration compared with a train if you are traveling by bus or car on roads that are often busy.

Currently, there are many trains on this route, which belong to the Reunification Express train. The trains include SE1, SE3, SE5, and SE7, which depart from Hanoi at the earliest at 6:00 am, and the cost depends on the type of seats.
As per the railway rule of Vietnam, you can carry bags of 20 kg, whereas the limit is 10 kg per ticket for children. The government has renewed to make the trains more comfortable. You will enjoy beautiful scenery and countryside views of the country along the railway.
To get good travel by train, you should book tickets with many stops in Vietnam. Then, you can explore its beauty at different destinations.
Travel by road
By traveling by bus or private rental car from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, you can explore the whole country easily, including landscapes and lifestyles. You can make maximum stops during the journey and enjoy the food, shopping, and weather of different cities in Vietnam along the way.
Daily, dozens of buses leave from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City; the price of the ticket also depends on the type of bus and facilities offered in the bus. It takes up to 35-40 hours to reach Ho Chi Minh City from Hanoi by road when you go straight ahead.
Going straight ahead is not recommended for luxury tourists.
Traveling in a private is more valuable and comfortable. However, the price is high in comparison with other transportation for this route.
Travel by air
The fastest way is to travel by air. Many flights depart from Noi Bai Airport to Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.
