The majestic scenery from above will make all fatigue disappear. At the same time, it will also foster your love for your country.

4. Discover Dong Van Stone Plateau & Old Town

Every step in Ha Giang will help you touch the majestic beauty of the Dong Van Stone Plateau, a Global Geopark. The entire field is composed of cat-ear stone mountains that stretch along the mountainside, creating a landscape painting dotted with multi-shape rocks, as if arranged by nature in a mysterious order. Once here, don’t forget to take a walk in Dong Van Old Town, where time seems to stop. Ancient rammed earth houses, thick, sturdy clay walls, and quiet yin-yang tiled roofs. In the old town, you can enjoy local specialties and feel the simple, rustic life of the people in the highlands.

5. Admire the Hoang Su Phi Terraced Fields

If you come to Ha Giang in late September and early October, don’t miss the opportunity to admire the Hoang Su Phi terraced fields when the rice is ripe and stretches out. Thousands of golden rice terraces, winding softly along the mountainside like giant silk strips, are a work of art created by humans and nature. The rich, brilliant scenery under the golden sunlight will captivate anyone. Occasionally, columns of smoke rise from the fields just harvested, bringing a sense of peace and admiration for the beauty of the labor of the highland people.

Ha Giang Weather

As a mountainous province, Ha Giang has a typical climate with an average annual temperature of approximately 21-23°C, resulting in a cool and pleasant atmosphere. This place has its own beauty in each season, allowing visitors to explore at any time of the year.

Vietnamdrive suggests the ideal time is from September to December. This is when the weather is cool and dry, especially in October and November, when the entire plateau is bright with the purple-pink color of buckwheat flowers and the sparkling beauty of the golden rice season in Hoang Su Phi, from mid-September to October.

If you love romance, visit in the spring (February, March) when apricot and plum flowers bloom pink and white in the forest, like fluffy, colorful clouds. From May to August, although it may rain, the terraced fields glisten with falling water, and the mountains and forests of Ha Giang turn green, bringing a peaceful beauty that easily connects people’s hearts with nature.

Ha Giang Transportation

Ha Giang, located approximately 300 km north of Hanoi, takes between 6 and 7 hours to travel. Visitors from the northern provinces of Vietnam can easily travel by bus from Hanoi. For tourists from the South or Central, it is recommended to fly or take the train to Hanoi, then continue the journey from there.

High-quality sleeper buses or Vietnamese limousines depart continuously from My Dinh, Luong Yen, Yen Nghia, and Gia Lam bus stations, helping you save money and time (if traveling at night), and ensuring you have the energy for a long trip. Ticket prices range from 200,000 – 300,000 VND/trip.

When arriving in Ha Giang city, you can rent a motorbike (150,000 – 300,000 VND/day) to freely explore the winding, majestic roads. However, with the steep and dangerous terrain, Vietnam Drive recommends that you consider renting a motorbike with a professional driver or joining a motorbike tour in a group to ensure smooth trips.

For families or large groups, renting a 7-seater car or a 16-seater van from Hanoi to Ha Giang is a more comfortable and convenient option.
