Vietnam Van Rental with Driver
Find a modern van with a driver for your tours to explore Vietnam or private transfers.
Van rental has become one of the fastest-growing transfer services in Vietnam in recent years. Along with the growing trend of small-group and family travel, the demand for van rentals has risen sharply across destinations such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Da Lat, Phu Quoc, Sapa, and Ninh Binh.
Vans are popular because they are ideal for two small families or groups of 4–10 people, offering a private, comfortable, and more economical experience than renting a bus. Compared to regular cars, vans provide much more space, especially when you need to carry a lot of luggage for long trips, making your journey more relaxing and convenient.
Types of Vans for Rent in Vietnam
In Vietnam, people working in the tourism industry often classify vans based on the number of seats: the most common being 9-seat, 12-seat, and 16-seat types.
Another way to categorize them is by standard vans and luxury vans (limousines), mainly based on differences in interior equipment and comfort levels.
1. 9-Seater Van

This type of vehicle is commonly used by travel companies to serve groups of 4–6 people with luggage.
The 9-seat van category is often considered part of luxury vehicle rental options in Vietnam, thanks to the prominence of Dcar Limousine, a Vietnamese brand specializing in upgrading standard models such as the Ford Transit and Mercedes-Benz.
Besides Dcar Limousine, other popular 9-seat models in Vietnam include the Kia Carnival and Toyota Granvia, known for their modern design, smooth performance, and spacious interiors, ideal for long-distance or premium tours.
2. 12-Seater Van
The 12-seater van is not as common as the 9-seat or 16-seat models because it falls into a middle segment. The passenger capacity isn’t much higher than a 9-seater, while a 16-seater can easily accommodate a group that would normally use a 12-seat van.
However, a 12-seat van is still a great option for groups of 6–8 people with a lot of luggage or for long-distance travel.
Commonly used models include the Dcar Limousine and the Hyundai Solati Mini, also known as the 12-seat Solati Limousine, which has become increasingly popular in this segment for its comfortable interior and modern design.
3. 16-Seater Van

The 16-seater van is the most widely used vehicle type for transporting tourists in Vietnam, both in the domestic and international markets.
Although called “16-seat vehicles,” in practice, Vietnamdrive and our partners typically serve about 8 passengers from Europe, America, Australia, or Canada, or 10 passengers from Asian countries.
This arrangement ensures ample space and comfortable luggage storage, providing a more relaxing experience on long trips. The extra space also allows passengers to move around easily and not feel cramped during the journey.
In Vietnam, the Ford Transit and Hyundai Solati are the two most popular 16-seat models today.
Previously, Mercedes-Benz and Toyota Hiace were also part of this segment; however, these models have become less common. The Toyota Hiace has lost popularity due to its dated design and smaller seats (less suitable for European customers), while Mercedes-Benz models are less competitive in price compared to the Ford Transit and Hyundai Solati, which currently dominate the market.
For these reasons, Vietnamdrive and its partners often choose the Ford Transit line to serve small travel groups and families, ensuring stable quality, comfort, and reasonable pricing.
Why Do Most Van Rentals in Vietnam Include a Driver?
Vietnamdrive’s local partners and suppliers provide only van rental services with professional drivers, as self-drive options are restricted by local regulations and operational challenges in Vietnam.
When planning a group trip, please share your detailed itinerary so that we can arrange the most suitable driver for your schedule and destinations.
Key Benefits of Renting a Van with a Local Driver:
- A private driver makes it much easier to navigate crowded streets and unfamiliar routes in Vietnam.
- You don’t need to worry about traffic laws or parking, just sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery.
- In major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, some roads restrict 16-seat vans, but local drivers know which routes to take for a smooth, stress-free trip.
- Parking for vans is often more limited than for smaller cars, but your driver will handle everything conveniently, from drop-offs to pickups.
- Many 16-seat van drivers, especially in Hue, Da Nang, and Hoi An, can communicate in English, making it easier to coordinate sightseeing programs.

Choose a private driver with a clean, comfortable 16-seat van for your next exploration or business trip in Vietnam!
Van Rental Prices in Vietnam
Van rental prices in Vietnam vary significantly depending on the vehicle type. Many people assume that a 9-seater or 12-seater van would be cheaper than a 16-seater van because it has fewer seats, but in fact, the opposite is true.
9- and 12-seater vans are typically in the luxury transportation, featuring upgraded interiors and modern amenities, which makes their rental prices higher.
Meanwhile, 16-seater vans are usually standard models equipped with full air conditioning and comfortable seating, commonly used for transporting tourists, making them more affordable.

Below is a reference price list for 16-seater vans, covering the most popular routes frequently booked by travelers in Vietnam. Luxury van prices are generally higher due to their upgraded models, so Vietnamdrive encourages you to contact us directly for a personalized quote.

FAQs About Renting a Tourist Van
Please send us your questions if you cannot find it here!
Is it better to rent a van by the day or by the trip?
It’s usually more convenient to plan a specific itinerary for your trip with a van and driver rather than renting by the day, unless your trip is last-minute and you haven’t had time to plan in detail.
Renting by the trip is also more economical, as vans and drivers in Vietnam typically have daily limits of 100 km and a maximum of 8 hours per day when rented by the day. Once you travel outside the city, the cost increases significantly.
Can I book a van for a trip across Vietnam, from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City?
Absolutely, as long as you have enough time and budget.
For a cross-country journey from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City (or vice versa), we recommend allocating at least 12 days. This allows for a reasonable travel pace and plenty of time to enjoy the sights without feeling rushed.
Do van drivers speak English?
Many 16-seater van drivers in Hue, Da Nang, and Hoi An have good English communication skills, a great advantage when exploring Central Vietnam or taking longer trips from these cities.
In Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, some drivers also speak English, though their skills are generally more limited compared to those in the Central region.
Is there Wi-Fi in the van?
Most 9, 12, and 16-seater vans are equipped with free Wi-Fi. However, since the vehicle is constantly moving, the connection can sometimes be unstable.
If the van doesn’t have a built-in Wi-Fi router, the driver may share his mobile hotspot so you can look up essential information.
That said, we encourage you to take a break from the internet during your journey, enjoy the scenery, the villages, and the vibrant street life of Vietnam. Those moments are often far more rewarding than staying online.
How are the driver’s accommodation and meals arranged for long trips?
Should I tip the van driver?
