- The Rest Stop on the Dau Giay – Phan Thiet Expressway, about 114 km from the center of Ho Chi Minh City: This is one of the rest stops our drivers often use for short breaks, restroom stops, and relaxing before the next driving segment.

Today, the visit to the Sand Dunes is scheduled for late afternoon instead of midday to avoid the high temperature of the sand. After about 4:00 PM, the sunlight gradually softens and the sea breeze becomes more noticeable, creating a more comfortable atmosphere for light activities such as riding a quad bike, sandboarding, walking for photos, and exploring the spacious sand dunes of Mui Ne.
Arrival and Accommodation
Arriving in Mui Ne around midday after a long drive from HCMC allows for a more relaxed check-in before taking a short break or continuing with late afternoon activities such as visiting the Sand Dunes.
After returning to the resort from the light activities at the Sand Dunes, many guests spend the rest of the day relaxing by the beach before the next morning’s activities.
The recommended areas for accommodation on this trip are along Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street (Ham Tien), Huynh Thuc Khang, and Nguyen Huu Tho, where many resorts are concentrated and the areas are convenient for dining, relaxing on the beach, and taking evening strolls.
Day 2: From the Beaches of Mui Ne to the Mountain Air of Dalat

The morning is kept free to allow for a real break before starting the mountain journey to Dalat.
Morning is also usually the most pleasant time in Mui Ne, with cooler air, calmer seas, and conditions suitable for light activities such as strolling or relaxing by the beach.
Around 5:30 AM to 6:30 AM, when the sun is just rising over the sea, many travelers enjoy walking along the beach or observing the early morning activities of the local fishing boats.
12:00 PM: After a relaxing morning at the beach, the most suitable time to leave Mui Ne is usually around midday after checking out of the hotel. The driver and vehicle will be ready to pick you up to continue your journey to Dalat, and this is also a convenient time to have lunch before starting the mountain route.
Vietnamdrive usually recommends this time slot so that travelers can still enjoy the full morning by the coast while having enough daylight to arrive in Da Lat before around 4:30 PM, avoiding the time when the mountainous areas begin to get dark more quickly.
Note: After lunch in Mui Ne, many travelers tend to fall asleep during the first part of the journey. However, after about an hour of driving, the scenery begins to change more noticeably as the vehicle enters the undulating mountain ranges characteristic of the road leading to Da Lat.

About an hour after leaving Mui Ne, the sea breeze gradually fades and the temperature becomes cooler due to the increasing presence of mountains. This is when you can roll down the windows to enjoy the fresh air, leaving behind the salty and dry coastal air.
The Dai Ninh Pass section on National Highway 28B is the most noticeable elevation change of the entire journey. The continuous curves and gradually increasing altitude are often when many travelers begin to clearly feel the change in elevation.

The second day is designed as the main transition from the coastal atmosphere of Mui Ne to the cooler mountain environment of Da Lat.
This is not an ideal day to add too many sightseeing stops or extend the itinerary until late at night. The route from Mui Ne to Da Lat is more suitable for maintaining a steady pace, with only short breaks for photos or quick rest, while arriving before darkness settles over the mountain roads.
Before entering the Dai Ninh Pass area, the most characteristic mountain road section of today’s route, drivers often choose open areas or suitable roadside locations for short breaks instead of stopping directly on the pass. These rest stops mainly help reduce fatigue and prepare for the winding sections ahead
Although the scenery along the pass is quite open and beautiful, drivers usually avoid making long stops due to the narrow roads and some sections being unsuitable for safe parking.
On steep sections, drivers sometimes slightly open the windows to let more cool air into the cabin and help the vehicle operate more steadily while climbing continuous slopes.
For travelers unfamiliar with mountain roads or prone to motion sickness, the mountain turns on Dai Ninh Pass are often the most tiring part of the day.

This highland city offers a distinctly different feeling compared to the coastal area, from the cool air and gentle slopes to the slower, more peaceful pace of life characteristic of Da Lat.
In the evening, many travelers enjoy strolling around Xuan Huong Lake and the central square, visiting the Da Lat Night Market, or sitting in a small restaurant or café to experience the unique atmosphere of the mountain town at night.

Unlike the seaside atmosphere, which usually becomes lively early in the morning, Da Lat feels slower at the beginning of the day due to the cool climate and thick fog in the hilly areas, especially during the rainy season (June and July) or cloudy weather.
Driving Overview
Today’s driving time is relatively light, mainly around the lakes, the hills, and the outskirts of Da Lat. The distances are significantly shorter than during the previous two days, making this suitable for a more relaxed itinerary.
The total travel time is estimated at around 4 to 6 hours, with shorter driving segments and more time spent at attractions, coffee stops, and scenic areas. Vietnamdrive aims to create a more relaxing and premium travel experience. Slow down to enjoy life!

After two days of constant transitions between the big city, the coast, and mountains, the third day is designed to be lighter, focusing more on experiencing the slower rhythm of the mountains.
The itinerary includes fewer stops, prioritizing mountainous scenery, lakes, pine forests, and open spaces.
This is also a better day for relaxed sightseeing, having coffee, and spending leisurely time between stops, which is part of experiencing the more peaceful pace of life in Da Lat. Vietnamdrive designed this itinerary without trying to “check off” too many places in the city center.
In simple terms, the day follows a gentle flow: leave the hotel, visit an attraction, stop for coffee, continue to another location, and finish the day without excessive driving.

- Lang Biang: Suitable for the morning when the weather and visibility are usually more stable. This is a place where you can clearly experience the mountainous terrain and altitude of Da Lat.
- Tuyen Lam Lake or Xuan Huong Lake: These lake areas serve as gentle breaks between short driving segments during the day, creating a relaxing atmosphere that reflects the character of Da Lat.
- A suburban waterfall: This stop creates a transitional feeling between the mountains and the city center without requiring travel too far from town. You can choose one of the waterfalls around Da Lat depending on your preferred route and schedule.

You can add a few other places such as the old train station, Bao Dai Palace, or the House of Laughter. However, we generally do not recommend this for travelers who prefer a gentle and relaxing itinerary.

Day 4: Ending the Journey with a Departure from Lien Khuong Airport
Suggested Departure Time
This morning will be more flexible and based on your flight time rather than following a fixed schedule like the previous days.
Because Da Lat is often cold and foggy in the early morning, many guests prefer a slower start to the day with a light breakfast, a hot cup of coffee, and a short stroll around the hotel before leaving the city.
Leaving the hotel about 2 to 2.5 hours before departure is usually enough to avoid rushing.
Driving Overview
The journey from Da Lat city center to Lien Khuong Airport usually takes about 40 minutes to a little over an hour, depending on the hotel’s location and traffic conditions.
Unlike the previous days, today’s drive mainly involves descending from the hilly terrain instead of continuing with uphill climbs or long hours on the road.
The route is relatively easy to navigate.
Logic of Today’s Route
On the final day, Vietnamdrive usually encourages keeping activities light or optional because flight times are important and may sometimes change.
In addition, our team designed this journey to end with a sense of onward movement rather than returning to Ho Chi Minh City by road.
Ending the trip at Lien Khuong Airport reduces backtracking, avoids many additional hours of driving, and makes it easier to connect to flights heading to other regions of Vietnam. This one-way car journey with a continuous multi-region travel flow can work more smoothly for travelers.
The Pace of the Journey’s Conclusion
Lien Khuong Airport is much smaller and simpler than larger airports such as Tan Son Nhat, so the process of entering the airport, checking in, and handling luggage is usually faster. This helps the final day feel less rushed.

Mui Ne was selected as the first overnight stop because the distance from Ho Chi Minh City is more suitable for the first day of the journey. Compared to Vung Tau, the route is long enough to create a clearer sense of transition. Meanwhile, continuing farther to Nha Trang on the same day would significantly increase travel time and could easily lead to a late hotel check-in.
The departure time from Mui Ne around midday was planned based on the typical check-out times of beachfront hotels while still allowing enough daylight for the drive to Da Lat before late afternoon.
The trip ends at Lien Khuong Airport instead of returning to Ho Chi Minh City by road to avoid another unnecessarily long day of driving. This allows the entire journey to flow more naturally, from the city to the coast, then up to the mountains before continuing with connecting flights to other parts of Vietnam.

The Longest Drive of the Trip:
Since this is usually the longest day of the trip and can be tiring for travelers, the schedule is kept relatively light after arriving in Mui Ne.
Therefore, Vietnamdrive suggests only one activity at the sand dunes. However, you may still choose to add Fairy Stream or other activities. Even so, we generally do not recommend more than two activities on this day.
Accommodation Areas in Mui Ne:
Many international travelers often confuse the center of Phan Thiet with the Mui Ne/Ham Tien resort area, while the actual distance can vary from 11 to more than 20 km depending on the hotel’s location. Most beachfront resorts, restaurants, and tourist areas are concentrated along Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street and Nguyen Huu Tho Street in the Ham Tien area.
Mountain Passes and Actual Travel Time:
The first day from Ho Chi Minh City to Mui Ne mainly follows highways and coastal roads, which are relatively easy to navigate. Meanwhile, the route from Mui Ne to Da Lat begins to feature mountain passes, winding roads, and noticeable elevation changes.
Dai Ninh Pass (the route most commonly used by drivers) is the most winding section of the entire journey and is also where travelers are more likely to experience motion sickness, especially children or those unfamiliar with mountain roads in Vietnam. During rainy or cloudy weather, visibility on the pass can be significantly reduced, and travel time is usually 30 to 45 minutes longer than in dry conditions.
Although the scenery along the pass is quite beautiful, drivers usually make only short stops at suitable locations because many sections of the road are narrow and not suitable for extended parking.
Seasonal Weather and Road Conditions:
Mui Ne is usually hotter and windier from around midday to early afternoon. At the sand dunes, the atmosphere is generally more pleasant after 4:00 PM due to reduced sunlight and stronger sea breezes.
