Updated on Sep 11th, 2021: Re-open tourism in Phu Quoc Island

Vietnam will open tourism to welcome international travelers to explore Phu Quoc island from October 2021.

Tourists in regions such as Northeast Asia, Europe, the US, the Middle East, and Australia can travel to Phu Quoc Island (Kien Giang Province, Vietnam) when they have had 2 doses of Covid-19 vaccine and have a negative test certificate of SARS-CoV-2 by RT-PCR within 72 hours prior to departure.

This is good news for Vietnam’s tourism, as well as good news for international tourists, because Phu Quoc is considered an incredible beach paradise where visitors can stay in beautiful resorts, and lying down on soft white sand beaches.

The markets suggested by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism include China, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, USA, Germany, UK, Russia, and France. These are markets where plenty of visitors come to Vietnam and have high rates of COVID-19 vaccination.

Children under 12 years old are allowed to be accompanied by a parent or guardian who has been fully vaccinated as prescribed.

International tourists enter by air, via charter flights, or commercial flights. Visitors must buy a package tour to be well taken care of and prevent covid in the best way.

To welcome international guests, Phu Quoc island district (Kien Giang province, Vietnam) is urgently preparing human resources, and try to get enough vaccination for 70% of the island’s population.

However, the biggest problem now is that there is no vaccine source to inject enough for 70% of the locals. Phu Quoc has only injected 35% of people aged 18 and over and needs an additional 250,000-300,000 doses of the vaccine.

Kien Giang province said that if the necessary amount of vaccine is distributed, the injection can be completed within 15-20 days, even 1 week.

Since the appearance of the COVID-19 epidemic, Phu Quoc has only had 5 cases of F0 (covid patient) and all have recovered from the disease, currently, 50% of F1 is in isolation.

All people directly involving in the process of welcoming and serving visitors from quarantine officers, immigration control officers, employees of airlines, travel agencies, transportation, accommodation… must receive two full doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, the second dose at least 14 days before the arrival time.

Through the guidance of the travel company, visitors move according to the allocated flow and use their own cars following the approved schedule, arranged with a hand sanitizer solution. Service staff, drivers, guides, and tourists wear masks throughout the journey.

If successfully welcoming international guests in Phu Quoc in October 2021, in the future, Vietnam will open tourism to invite the guests to Ha Long (Quang Ninh), Hoi An (Quang Nam), Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa), and Da Lat (Lam Dong).
