The developing process of Phu Quoc airport

Phu Quoc airport was built during the French colonial period to transport food, weapons, and people during the war. At that time, the yard was quite small, could only accommodate DC3 small aircraft with a maximum capacity of about 32 people.

During the American time in Vietnam, they also invested in many other items such as railway stations and buildings to serve wartime purposes.

Then, Phu Quoc airport was upgraded in 1983 from 996m to 1,496m to be able to receive larger aircraft.

After peace was restored, Phu Quoc airport was shut down for a period of time. Until 2003, new construction investment projects were started and renovated with a total investment of 1,200 billion VND. But for some reason, this project continued to be postponed and was replaced by a completely new airport construction project with a higher investment cost of VND 16,200 billion.

Thus, after many times of renovation and upgrading, Phu Quoc airport has a new and modern appearance, invested in runways, signal systems, terminals … to meet international standards to serve domestic and international passengers and military purposes.
