Linh Ung Pagoda in Son Tra Peninsula is one of three famous pagodas of Linh Ung in Da Nang City, Vietnam. Location of Linh Ung pagoda in Son Tra is 10 km far from My Khe beach, on a mountain of Bai But, Son Tra Peninsula, Da Nang City. Many people also call it Linh Ung Pagoda in Bai But, or Lady Buddha Statue in Son Tra Island.
Linh Ung Pagoda in Bai But was built from October 07, 2004, to July 30th, 2010. This area is well-known for the largest pagoda in Danang and the tallest Lady Buddha Statue in Vietnam. The statue, which is the highlight of the pagoda, has 67m high, and 35m diameter of the lotus foundation.

The pagoda lays at an altitude of 639 meters above sea level with an area of 20 hectares, which is a complex of many buildings including the main temple, worshipping ancestor temple, study hall, a library and the gardens. This pagoda faces the sea, looking over the Cu Lao Cham Island, one side to Hai Van pass, and another one to the city center and the Han River flowing softly.
There is a legendary talking about this Linh Ung pagoda: At the time of Emperor Minh Mang (1820 – 1841), a fisherman found a lady Buddha statue floating to this peninsula. The local people thought this was a good message from heaven, and they built a small temple to worship the Lady Buddha. Since then, the waves of the sea becomes calmer, the fishermen got more lucky in work. Therefore, they called the pagoda Linh Ung (meaning the message from heaven), and the beach Bai But (meaning the holy beach).

Nowadays, tourists can see a tall statue of Lady Buddha standing on the lotus inside Linh Ung Pagoda’s area. Right on the left of the statue is the main temple where travelers and prayers can pray to wish good lucks for life. Around the gardens, many bonsai trees decorate the temples more beautiful and more peaceful.

From this pagoda, the guests have the opportunity to enjoy the panorama of Danang City, the immense blue sky and sea, and fine white sand beaches. Overlooking the city, the modern new life covers all around the city with high buildings near the Han River, showing the mighty of the modern city which is developing strongly.
