Notes that your trip may be affected by the weather

❗ Storm season (July-October):

When traveling to the sea and islands, you must monitor weather information before departure. During storms, plane trips or some nature discovery tours may be delayed.

❗ Cold season (December-February):

If traveling to the North (Ha Giang, Sapa), pay attention to the cold weather. Temperatures can drop below 2°C, and ice and snow may appear. Also, some mountain roads often have thick fog.

❗ Rainy season (May-November, mainly in the Central Highlands and Southern regions):

Always bring an umbrella or raincoat. If you go trekking, check the weather conditions because rain can cause landslides in Central Highlands. To ensure safety, you should go with a professional trekking tour guide.

Frequently asked about the weather in Vietnam before a journey?

1. When is the cheapest time to travel to Vietnam?

Every year, from September 5 to 30, there are many promotions and discounts in the tourism sector in Vietnam.

Reason: Summer vacation has just ended, and children return to school, so domestic tourists hardly travel. At the same time, international tourists have not yet come to Vietnam. Therefore, many 4- or 5-star hotels or domestic air tickets have deep discount packages.

2. When is the hottest time in Vietnam?

July and August are the hottest months in Vietnam. Many places in Central Vietnam, such as Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Ninh Thuan, and Binh Thuan, have many days with temperatures up to 39 degrees Celsius, with high humidity making it feel like it is over 40 degrees Celsius.

3. When is the coldest time in Vietnam, where?

January and February are the coldest months in Vietnam. In northern mountainous areas such as Ha Giang, Sapa, and Lang Son, the temperature ranges from 5 to 15 degrees Celsius. The coldest site is Mau Son Peak in Lang Son, which recorded a temperature of -5 degrees Celsius, making it one of the rare spots to see snow in Vietnam.

4. Are the cold feelings in Vietnam different from those in temperate countries?

When the temperature in Vietnam drops to 10 degrees Celsius, you will feel numb and cold to the bone.

This reason can be explained by the fact that the humidity in the air is still high, creating a colder feeling than the low temperature and dry air in temperate countries. For example, if you take a bath without drying yourself and go into an air-conditioned place, you will feel numb and cold.

Therefore, if you come from a temperate country with low temperatures, do not be subjective about the seemingly normal temperature threshold in Vietnam. Be prepared with enough warm clothes if your travel duration is winter in the northern part of the country.

5. Does it rain often in Vietnam?

Most cities in Vietnam do not rain for long. However, Hue City is an exception. It may rain for 7 to 10 days without stopping, drizzle, and light enough to muddy the roads.

6. What outdoor activities are affected by storms in Vietnam?

When traveling in winter or the rainy season, you must pay attention to trekking in the forest, climbing mountains, visiting islands, or sleeping overnight in Ha Long Bay. Check the weather before this season’s activities in the forest, mountains, rivers, and islands.
