We have arrived in Saigon at the conclusion of the driving tour that Vietnamdrive arranged for us, and are writing to let you know that you guys did a great job.
As you know, Vietnam is the penultimate stop on a year-long round-the-world tour that we started last August. Our travels have been complicated at several points by the fact that we are travelling with Lionel, who is Maria’s emotional support dog. In Southeast Asia, where service animals and even private pet dogs are not as common as in some other areas that we have visited, this was a particular issue.
The only flight we could find from Bangkok into Vietnam that would allow Lionel to fly with us in the cabin was into Danang, which meant that rather than a sensible routing starting in either the north or the south, we had to begin in the middle. We were unable to find any domestic Vietnamese airline that would allow him on board, nor was he welcome on tourist or better class train or bus services, so travel by private car become the only way for us to see the country.
Maria found your company on the internet and contacted Ms. Golda, who proved very helpful in planning our journey, helping us find pet-friendly accommodations in some places where we were having difficulty. Working from Thailand by email, we were able to arrive at a mutually satisfactory itinerary at a price we could afford.
Vietnamdrive arranged cars and drivers to take the three of us from Danang to Hanoi, with stops of from one to three days in each of Hue, Phong Nha, and Cua Lo. Then, after our week in Hanoi, other drivers picked us up and took us south again, with overnight or longer stops in Ninh Binh, Ha Tinh, Dong Hoi, Hoi An, Quang Ngai, Nha Trang, Da Lat, and Mui Ne en route to Ho Chi Minh City. The itinerary that Golda helped us perfect avoided overlong driving days and allowed us to see the country in comfort, and we enjoyed the entire experience.
Fourteen stops, thirteen travel days spaced out over nearly a month, and everything was flawless. Every car was clean and comfortable. Every driver was on time, helpful and courteous. On two different stops in Hue, one while headed north and another on our way back south, we enjoyed visiting with you, Thom, and overall we just want to say thank you for taking care of us to you and everyone at Vietnamdrive.
Please feel free to use this email in promotional materials. If there is one you would like us to recommend you on, just let us know — we thought you did a sensational job and would enthusiastically recommend Vietnamdrive to others who might want to visit the country in this way.
Thank you for everything,
Drew, Maria and Lionel Norman
